Bio
Matt Wilson & Sinking City are a New Orleans-based piano-driven band devoted to celebrating the timeless sounds of the Crescent City while carving out a voice of their own. Led by pianist and vocalist Matt Wilson, the group delivers beloved local classics alongside original songs steeped in the rich soul of the French Quarter.
Originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Matt began playing piano and singing at the age of seven and developed an early passion for live performance. By his early twenties, he was performing professionally and co-founded the band Bailey Park with his brother, earning opportunities such as opening for Kansas. After making New Orleans his home, Matt immersed himself in the city’s iconic piano traditions, drawing inspiration from legends like Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, and Jon Cleary.
Sinking City came together after years of playing the vibrant Bourbon Street and Frenchmen Street scenes, where the band honed its high-energy, crowd-driven style. Their sound blends groove, grit, heartfelt storytelling, and the unmistakable rhythm of New Orleans.
In 2025, Matt released Tipitina Patina, a four-song EP inspired by the legendary piano traditions of the city, with a debut full-length album scheduled for release in 2026. Today, Matt Wilson & Sinking City perform full-time across New Orleans and beyond, bringing authentic Crescent City energy to every stage they play.
